The bad weather may have scuppered the second leg of the Powerboat P1 Portuguese Grand Prix, but it certainly could not dampen the spirits of Angelo Tedeschi, Fabio Magnani and Ugo Pellegrino, the newly crowned world champions of the Roscioli Hotels Roma team. The Italians secured the 2007 Powerboat P1 SuperSport World Championship title with an outstanding performance in the first leg of the event on Saturday, which saw them beat their nearest rivals, the British team, Buzzi Bullet, by 100 points. Roscioli Hotels Roma's Mercruiser-powered Chaudron saw its crew seize no less than four wins and eight podium finishes overall, throughout what proved to be an exciting season. Meanwhile, the British pairing of James Sheppard and Craig Wilson, in their Ilmor-powered Fountain powerboat, dominated the Evolution class -taking six wins and the world title in their debut season. Their performance will surely set a new standard for the event, after easily seeing off challenges from the Italians, Giancarlo Cangiano and Giovanni Carpitella of OSG - who finished in second, with 600 points to the Brits' 750 - and the American Lucas Oil Outerlimits team, who finished in third.
