Marc Guillemot and Charles Coudrelier lead TJV

On day three of the Transat Jacques Vabre (TJV), Marc Guillemot and Charles Coudrelier in Safran were in the lead as the pack made its way along the French coast. After a slow start, conditions are finally improving, with winds from the north-east picking up to speeds of 20 to 25 knots, with some crews, including the leaders, now opting to head offshore in an attempt to make the best of the present conditions.

Michel Desjoyeaux and Emamanuel Le Borgne on Foncia are lying less than ten miles behind the leaders in second place, but are hugging the coast, with Loick Peyron and Jean Baptiste Levaillant on Gitana close behind them. In the Class 40 fleet, Giovanni Soldini and Pietro Ali on Telecom Italia are in the lead, but British pair Alex Bennett and Ifor Pedley on Fujifilm are fast gaining ground, leaping from eighth place to second in a short space of time. Dee Caffari and Nigel King have worked hard to keep up in Aviva, and are lying in 11th place, while their sister ship, Ecover, crewed by Mike Golding and Bruno Dubois is less than 20 miles behind the leaders.
