Just over a week ago, Hull & Humber were bringing up the rear of the fleet, but have turned things around, winging their way to the front of the pack and back into the running. In fifth, sixth and seventh place, Glasgow, Durban and Singapore are still sticking close together, sailing almost in formation for the last week, with little to pick between the three, despite Glasgow dropping their spinnaker into the water on Tuesday. Nova Scotia and Jamaica, who opted for a southerly course early on in the leg, are now bringing up the rear - with race director Joff Bailey saying: "I would like to say that the tactic of going south early proved to be correct, but time has run out for Nova Scotia and Jamaica to catch up with the leading pair." He added: "With a 400 nautical mile deficit between them and the leader they would have to sail significantly faster and the spread of the fleet north to south is now not enough for any significant difference in weather that would help them. "They will now be concentrating on trying to pick off some of the other backmarkers in an attempt to salvage whatever points they can from the race."
