Franck Cammas and Steve Ravussin have won the Transat Jacques Vabre (TJV) again, beating the previous race record held by Cammas and Franck Proffit by an incredible 48 hours.
Seen as the favourites since the start, Cammas and Ravussin did not disappoint, making their mark on the race with ten days of strong sailing and sound tactics.
Deciding to reduce their sail area during a gale off Cape Finisterre proved to be a wise choice, while the pair lost ground and the lead, ultimately the choice was a wise one, sparing both their energy and equipment.
It was close to Cape Verde that Cammas and Ravussin secured their win, extending their lead from 50 miles to over 300 miles.
Cammas said: "It wasn't easy to manage our lead as we don't necessarily know what rhythm to adopt. To keep attacking with the risk of breaking the boat would have been stupid.
"At the same time, these trimarans are fantastic machines which require the utmost concentration. When crossing through the doldrums, we were surprised by a squall in which the wind increased from 10 to 35 knots. It was pretty dicey."
